Character Story: Spending the majority of his life on Rishiri island, Ryu trained with his Granfather from an early age in the art of hand-to-hand and sword combat. His father a powerful business man in Osaka and his mother dead (while giving birth to him) he lived with his Grandparents on the small island. His grandfather teaching him the way of the samurai, a tradition long held in the Mizumagi Clan. During the fall of his last year in middle school, he was sent with the proper materials, the town blacksmith, and the blacksmith’s apprentice to complete the family tradition of helping to forge his own sword. After 2 months, the three returned, and, as his Grandfather had expected, Ryu returned with not one, but two Katana, both made specifically for Ryu’s combat style; “Tsuin Sentou no Tsurugi” (Twin Blade Combat). Soon afterwords, Ryu received a e-mail from his father, stating that he had enrolled Ryu in a High School in Osaka and had also payed off an apartment for Ryu to live in while he attended school. Promising to train everyday, his Grandfather saw him off at the docks, and Ryu left for Osaka. While attending High School, Ryu was one of the top students in his class, but preferred to keep is distance from his fellow students (with a few exceptions here and there). The enigmatic characteristic attracted the attention of one of the most beautiful women in his class to him; Fumiho Suzuka. At first, her constant pestering got on his nerves, even to the point of lashing out at her. But that didn’t stop Suzuka. An intelligent girl with a free spirit and fiery temper, Suzuka employed every tactic she could think of to get Ryu’s attention. From following him home, to demanding the teacher pair them for group projects. He hated to admit it, but she grew on him. And when she was sick, Ryu worried about her all day, and even went to her house to care for her in her hour of need. He was coming to see her as on of his, if not his, Best Friend. The two of them were inseparable even entering Senior year. Ryu taught Suzuka in martial arts, and she helped him with homework, he went shopping with her, carrying her dozens of bags, and she cooked dinner for him. Then, one day, during the middle of school, something horrible happened. The undead started to attack people, transforming the unlucky souls into “Them”. Seeing the chaos, Ryu quickly grabbed Suzuka, and fled the classroom, leaving everyone else confused as to what Ryu saw out the window. The two fled to the roof where Ryu tried to blockade the door with whatever he could find. Then, looking down from the roof the two saw the Chaos before them.....
Character Personality: Ryu is a very intelligent young man (scoring at the top of his class) with a strong sense of pride. He loves a good challenge and, as such, plays games that challenge his strategic way of thinking. A very powerful swordsman and martial artist, Ryu was the best fighter in the Kendo club at his school. These skills made him arrogant though. He meditates to keep his emotions calm, to think with a calm mind, but at times his emotions got the best of him, making him reckless. He cares very deeply for Suzuka, but is too proud to admit that he loves her (unlike her who will shout it to the world if she had the chance). He’ll eat nearly anything (as long as Suzuka or a professional cooked it) and loves nature, preferring to meditate and train in the park when possible. Because of his upbringing by his Grandfather, he greatly respects others and respects the Samurai code. He refuses to fight unless absolutely necessary, which, in this new “Them” filled world, is every day.
