YOU MUST READ ALL RULES STICKIES IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS GAME. Seriously, they're not that long and they're not complicated at all. Stop complaining. Razz

It should be noted that all general forum rules are applicable here; each rule detailed in this guide in no way contradicts those in the general forum rules, unless explicitly stated.

I'll explicitly state this now: Swearing is allowed. I really don't care. So is gore, you can be as violent as you want. ABF is a serious world where people with sheltered or otherwise prudish views really don't belong. Sexual content IN TEXT FORM is alright, as long as it isn't explicit (try not to describe it that much).

A special thanks goes out to Clephas, the creator of the original set of rules that I modified to fit this game. With his permission of course. Razz

A quick overview of the Rin System:

The Rin System is of course named after me, Yukarin-rin, who stole a bunch of people's hard work and cobbled it all together into this gigantic TL;DR block that stretches down who knows how many pages. But yeah, the aim of the Rin System is to provide a semi-autonomous (read: a system that operates by itself, to a degree) game mechanic that gives the players more freedom than, say, D&D's dungeon master/player relationship, by allowing the players to act out their very own post-apocalyptic escapist fantasy life. It's a little optimistic because it somewhat relies on a player honor system, but done right it can be truly beautiful to behold. The Rin System does away with stats and probability for the most part, relying more on good storytelling and use of imagination.

A quick supplementary note: this guide is subject to change, I'll put up an announcement when that happens, but be sure to check the rules periodically. Bans won't be handed out left and right, but make sure you're in the loop. An easy way to fix this is to subscribe to this thread, and I'll post that I updated every time I do, so you get an email notification.

Another quick supplementary note: the terms admin, mod, administrator, and moderator are all used interchangeably in these guidelines, basically meaning "staff." In-game, Admin(istrator)s have power over Mod(erator)s, who have power over players.

    1a. General Guidelines

    1) All players must create a character that follows the basic template presented in the Character Creation Guide.

    2) All players may have 2 Primary Characters per account, each with 5 Secondary Characters per Primary Character. This is to prevent confusion. If a player decides they want more than 2 Primary Characters, they should file a request, however multiple character requests are usually only given to players who have proven themselves as solid RPers. Please refer to the Character Creation Guide for details on setting up Secondary Characters.

    3) Primary Characters can only be killed with the creator's permission, unless the character participates in an admin-sanctioned story event, however they can be injured, wounded, diseased, or even scarred during a player story event. Heavy injuries such as losing a limb, getting terminal diseases like Radiation Cancer, or becoming blind can only be done with the player's permission. Secondary characters can be killed, but only in extreme situations; the malicious killing of Secondary Characters is a bannable offense. Once a SC is killed, the player is entitled to create a new one if he/she wishes. This does not mean you have an endless army of constantly replenishing followers, however.

    4) All primariy characters are required to post a character introduction in the introduction thread in the major trade hub of their continent. For North America, the only available continent at the moment, this is the Trade City of New Denver, Colorado. From there they can venture wherever they wish, provided the area is open to players. Secondary characters do not require an introduction thread.

    5) All requests for special weapons, races, areas, factions, monsters, special powers, etc must be correctly filed in the Requests Subforum for reviewing by an admin, or else they will be summarily deleted and ignored. Requests for secret things (AKA traits, factions, special powers/traits that should be kept secret, such as trump cards or secret weapons that other players shouldn't know about for RP purposes) can be done through PM to an administrator or moderator, but please use this sparingly.

    6) All off topic posting must be confined to the General Discussion section, and all out-of-character comments must be placed in a separate paragraph at the end, within brackets [these are brackets] with OOC before it. [OOC: Out Of Character]

    7) Indestructible/invincible/all-powerful characters (ie God-Modding) are not permitted, except in the form of NPCs created by game administrators.

8.) Property destruction in established areas such as cities is discouraged unless it is relatively harmless, as the rebuilding of cities and such is a pain in the ass. However, these locations may be destroyed as a part of admin-hosted story events.

    9) All player disputes, or problems between players themselves, must be overseen by a neutral administrator. This does not include in-game disputes between characters where permission is given and accepted by both parties, as those are for roleplaying purposes.

    10) Faction wars or other large scale conflicts must be overseen by a neutral administrator. These will always result in a gain/loss of territory/influence/resources for one side, and in extreme cases, they could result in a character's faction being completely destroyed. The degree of loss must be agreed on before hand and presented to the presiding staff member for authentication. The destruction of a Primary Character's faction does not necessarily mean death or exile for that character, it just means the loss of comrades and possibly Secondary Characters that were affiliated with said faction. Players are able to rebuild factions, however in-game conditions such as reputation and resources may prevent the speedy recreation of a lost faction.

    11) Your character can only be in one place at any given time, so you can only actively RP in one thread at a time. If you don't want to be somewhere and go somewhere else, then just leave the thread you're in and go to wherever else you want to be. You're not required to stay, though some situations (like being captured and thrown in a pit) prevent you from just walking off, just RP an escape instead) logically imply that you can't leave easily.

    12) Use common sense, try to be as realistic and detailed as possible, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spell-check your posts! The use of proper English grammar and spelling makes the whole experience SO much more enjoyable! Spell check is your friend!

    13) In all disputes, the chain of command is in effect. The Head Adminstrator (ME, Rin) has power over administrators, who in turn have power over the moderators, who in turn have power over the members. An admin/mod's word is final.
